He may seem dim at times, but Biff has a sincere desire to learn and improve his understanding of the world. The world, however, doesn't cut him a break very often. Even as he becomes less and less prone to be the victim of his own mistakes, he seems to be permanently hapless regardless. While his innocent outlook still allows him to be generally happy, Biff has never really thought of what he wants to do with his life, and his lack of ambition has put him in a series of demoralizing jobs.
